Elizabeth Taylor defines classic style in the jewelry world. Her precious collection stunned during her Hollywood heyday, and last Tuesday it was able to shine once more when Christie’s hosted an auction of more than 80 of her prized pieces. The “Legendary Jewels” of the sultry star set a new record for highest grossing sales at a private jewelry collection auction: nearly $116 million! Given her status as a style icon, it was perhaps not surprising that most of the items fetched far more than their estimates. Taylor’s tiara of diamonds upon diamonds is worth quite a sum on its own merit, but still managed to sell for over 50 times its highest valuation.
